Tuesday 11/01/11

This will be the first  in our new process of posting the Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday workouts we are using with our clients.  The idea is loosely based on CrossFit, where a workout is posted every day for three days, followed by a rest day and people are encouraged to post the results of their workouts.  It is a great way to see how others handle workouts as far as modifications or weights used and what kind of times or how many reps/rounds they are able to get in their workouts.  It is also a great tracking tool to see how far you have come as well as a great motivator to not only get the workout done, but to stay focused and work hard throughout the workout knowing you will be posting your score for all to see.

Strength
Single Leg Straight Leg Deadlift 5 sets of 5 each leg

Metcon
As many rounds as possible(AMRAP) in 10 minutes
7 Burpees
7 Dumbell Swings 25lbs (since this video we have changed our swing height to eye level)
7 Push Press 35lbs (watch the guy in the middle)

A couple of important points to emphasize.
  1. The weights listed for each workout are suggestions for the average person that we train.  You may need to add or subtract weight depending on your level of strength.
  2. We spend a great majority of our time in our training focusing on form.  The purpose of exercising is to take your body through full ranges of motion and to move the way the body is supposed to move.  We will do our best to post videos and/or pictures of the exercises listed, but DO NOT SACRIFICE FORM FOR SPEED IN ANY WORKOUT!!!!  Did we make that clear?
  3. If you do not have the appropriate equipment or cannot perform any of the exercise listed, sub it out for something else.
  4. When posting your results leave a comment with some way of identifying yourself.  You don't necessarily have to put your name, but you want to be able to find your results when you go back in.  Also consider putting your gender, age, weight and any substitutions you made to the workout.  For example, we did this workout on Sat. without the strength portion and our results would be posted as follows.
                Paul K - M/37/180/70lb swings/115 pp 6 rds + 7burps + 7 Swings

                Dawn K - F/34/132/40lb swings/75lb pp 5 rds

Revamped and Re-energized!

We are back from our brief hiatus and ready to wow you with all of our new ideas and strategies to help you achieve lasting health and fitness.  While the blog activity has been slow since the challenge, the back door work has been feverish and we are excited about the direction we are headed.   We started this whole thing with the idea that we could help people by sharing what we enjoy doing and possibly, somewhere down the road make a living at it.  We are not close to making a living at it, but do find ourselves in a position to take this venture a bit more serious and are attempting to get more organized.  We are making some changes that we hope will, first and foremost, benefit those who we train and at the same time make our lives more manageable.  We actually scheduled a business meeting with each other last week and sat down with an agenda to work things out.  Without kids it was almost like a date! (sad, we know)

Revamped Blog
Our computer skills are still not up to par, but we have played around with blogger for the past couple of weeks and made some changes that we hope make the blog more attractive and, with the tabs, help new people to our blog find out more about us and what we do.

New Workout Posts
One of the nice things that has come out of the morning fitness classes is how the group involved in the training has bonded as a community.  We hope to extend this community to more people by posting the workouts that the class does on the blog three times a week.  We will both collaborate on the weekly workouts and use the same ones with each of our clients, properly scaled to their ability of course.  People who want to can post the results of their workouts.  This helps simply by providing a record of your results and a way to keep track, but also provides some accountability and motivation as you can see the results of others.  We will do the workouts as well and post our times.  So going forward every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday we will have posts with workouts.  We will also link to any articles, blogs, or other resources that we come across that may be of interest to you.  We will also continue to post random musings as they come to us.

Business Stuff
We have hired an accountant to help make sure that we are handling the financial side correctly and will be working soon with a professional graphic designer to help us with branding and to come up with a new logo.

There is more in the works and we will roll things out as we get a better handle on them and still try to maintain our sanity.  It is exciting and fun and we hope you enjoy the changes.  Finally we leave you with what we came up with as our vision for the business and our mission statement going forward.

Vision
New Dawn Fitness, helping to bring the community together to achieve lasting health and fitness.

Mission
Our mission is to be the catalyst for information sharing on all things relating to nutrition, fitness and lifestyle factors that improve the quality of life for our clients and in turn, our community.  We will do this by providing the best training, most recent and effective nutritional information, and an examination of lifestyle factors that may be holding individuals back from achieving the best quality of life possible.

Warrior Dash

Well, Paul and I have another Warrior Dash under our belt!  We had a blast and this one was by far the best for me.  The obstacles were more difficult, but awesome!  There was everything from climbing over cars, climbing walls, jumping over logs in the neck deep water, and of course the fire and mud pit that you experience right at the end.   We never know what to expect, but we know that with the type of training we do, we will be ready for anything! What made it even more fun, was the great people that ran the race with us.  Chase, Scott, Jeremy, and Jennifer all rocked out and made the run a day to remember.  Good people=good times!  We all stayed together and helped each other get through the obstacles.  Jennifer conquered her fear of heights and made it over all 3 walls!!!  We were so proud of her!  Our hubbies helped us get over the logs in the neck deep waters and made sure we didn't trip over every stick, root, and branch hiding under the thigh deep water we had to wade through.  Paul actually stayed with me for the first time!  His competitive side usually kicks in after about 5 minutes and then he leaves me in the dust, but he stayed with me the whole time and I loved every minute of it:)  We laughed, joked, chowed down on some turkey legs and Bratwurst, and enjoyed some cold beers in the parking lot afterwards(they informed everyone the night before that they were not going to sell beer or let us drink on the premises!!!!!!!!!!!)  So, who is going to join us for the May warrior dash?  I am trying to convince my whole morning class to do it!  The more the merrier!!!  We would love to get a big bus so we can all relax and enjoy ourselves! Let's bring out all the warriors and make it a fun day at Budd's Creek!
